Description

Veuve Ambal Méthode Traditionnelle Blanc De Blancs – Burgundy’s Leading Sparkling Wine Producer

When it comes to Sparkling Wines from the famed Burgundy region of France, Veuve Ambal stands tall as a historic and pioneering name. Established in 1898 by Marie Ambal, the winery began its journey during a pivotal time when the Champagne region and neighboring Burgundy were making significant strides in bottle-fermented sparkling wine production.

Driven by a passion for sparkling wines and a desire to rival the region’s great producers, Marie Ambal chose to develop her own vineyards in Burgundy. She soon became a trailblazer in sparkling wine production within the region, setting in motion a legacy of craftsmanship and elegance that would span generations.

A Tradition of Elegance and Craftsmanship at Bourgogne

From the earliest years, Veuve Ambal’s sparkling wines quickly captured the hearts of wine lovers for their refined flavors and exceptional quality. Although these wines could not bear the name “Champagne” (as the designation is legally reserved for wines made within the Champagne region itself), the quality of Veuve Ambal’s sparkling wines has long been considered on par with premium champagnes.

With a steady stream of accolades and awards since 1908, Veuve Ambal has grown to become the largest sparkling wine producer in Burgundy and remains the region’s number one Crémant de Bourgogne brand.

Today, the estate boasts 250 hectares of vineyards spread across six distinct areas of Burgundy, each contributing unique characteristics to the winery’s diverse sparkling wine portfolio. All vineyards are cultivated using sustainable organic farming practices, a philosophy deeply rooted in the family’s ethos.

After more than a century in Rully, in 2005, Veuve Ambal constructed a state-of-the-art winery and cellar near the town of Beaune. This move was a testament to the house’s unwavering commitment to innovation while preserving the traditional craftsmanship instilled by its founder, Marie Ambal.

The Winemaking Method of Veuve Ambal Méthode Traditionnelle Blanc de Blancs

One of Veuve Ambal’s signature sparkling wines is the Méthode Traditionnelle Blanc De Blancs, crafted from a blend of Chardonnay and Aligoté grapes. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and gently pressed to extract the finest juice, which undergoes its first fermentation in oak barrels. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 18 months, allowing it to develop complex aromas and flavors.

The second fermentation takes place in the bottle, following the same traditional method used for Champagne. A small dosage of sugar is added before sealing the bottles, which are then stored under strictly controlled low temperatures to preserve the wine’s freshness and vivacity.
